Beauty in Pastel, The Art Hub Cooroy, 21st July-10th August
The Art Hub Cooroy, at Shop 3, 2 Emerald Street (next to Jamaica Blue) is hosting an exhibition by Anne Yang, Master Pastellist and Carol Watkins, Ceramic Artist, from Friday 21st July until 10th August.
“Beauty in Pastel” highlights Anne’s love of the immediacy and vibrancy of the soft pastel medium, finding it to be the perfect artist's tool to portray the contrasting variety of colour, texture and form in the landscape and the illuminating power of sunlight. Her expertise in this medium was recognised by the Pastel Society of Australia in 2014 when she was awarded the status of Master Pastellist. Anne paints in both pastel and oil from her home studio in Cooroy, Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
“All Fired Up” demonstrates Carol’s passion in relation to alternative firing methods such as raku, naked raku, smoke and saggar. In her Black Mountain studio, Carol makes most of her own glazes taking into account the effect of atmosphere on, in particular, the raku firings. All her firings involve experimentation, unpredictability and serendipity resulting in at times, breathtaking results and always one-off pieces.
